Our Beginnings
Our vision was to create leather crafting business that would provide financial support to the important work of Light Society. Built alongside our Light Home children’s orphanage and school, Promise Bags initially employing six women. This allowed our ladies to enjoy safe and reliable employment while their children attended school and received a quality education. Our Vision for Promise Bags came to life!
People Worldwide Discovered Promise Bags
As people around the world discovered our unique story and gorgeous leather products, we were able to employ 12 Dalit women. During this time, we worked to create new products and refine our ability to source the finest materials. We also increased our production ability and expanded the styles of bags we produce. All the while supporting our work at Light Society.
Our Second Chapter Begins
During this journey our mission has remained the same. We are focused on providing hope to children, women and families of the poor, Dalit community in India. We have worked tirelessly to create a brand-new collection of women and men’s bags.

Visionary Founder
Meet Elisha Chowtapalli: a man with heart and vision like few others.
Known to most as ‘Brother Elisha’, comes from a very poor Dalit (Untouchable) caste in India. He has experienced the poverty first-hand, the challenges and discrimination faced by his community.
He first started an orphanage after bringing a single child in off the street to share his family’s 3m x4m home. Then came more children, and a small school in which to educate them, and with both initiatives a need to constantly seek funds from overseas donors.
What if, Brother Elisha wondered, we could generate income to support our school and home, and therefore have less reliance on others’ philanthropy? And what if we could use our business employ those who so desperately needed a safe, reliable place of work?
From these questions, the Promise Bags vision materialised.
Elisha Chowtapalli began Promise Bags with a simple yet profound vision to make poverty history through employment in his community, while making high-quality, stylish leather.
With a deep passion for social justice, Elisha Chowtapalli was determined to blend creativity with purpose.
What sets Promise Bags apart is its mission to empower women through employment.
Elisha recognized early on that providing jobs to women, particularly in regions where opportunities are scarce, could be a game-changer. By employing women, Promise Bags not only helps them achieve financial independence but also boosts their confidence and self-worth.

OUR LEATHER
Our premium quality eco-leathers are tanned without the use of harmful chemicals like chromium and have no synthetic top finish. We choose to work with naturally tanned leathers because it’s safer for people and the planet.
We use full grain leather as it is is characterized by its luxurious, smooth surface and it has few, if any, flaws. It is the most popular type of leather. It has not been snuffed, sanded, or buffed to remove any natural marks or imperfections from its surface.
This type of leather does not wear out easily. Instead, it develops a patina, which is a thin layer that protects the leather from damage from wearing or corroding; it also gives the leather an aesthetic look. It is used in making high-quality goods.

A joint destiny
LIGHT Society is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for orphan, poor, abandoned, neglected, and underprivileged children of India. Founded in 2006, its primary focus is on Dalit (Untouchable) children and communities – the most underprivileged and vulnerable members of Indian society. It operates children’s home called LIGHT Home, an English medium high school, feeding the elderly people and running a maternity hospital.
LIGHT Home and School are supported by Promise Bags. 25% of the profits go towards feeding and educating the needy children. Our Dream is to make the poverty history in poor communities who are trapped in for generations. We strive to create a sanctuary where each child feels loved, valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential. We believe that every child deserves a chance to thrive, a place to call home, and a future filled with promise.
